Critics Consensus

Polite Society throws, kicks, and punches the genre etiquette book out the window to deliver a fun film that blends Bollywood splendor and British wryness.

A spunky, spiky action comedy that lives on the charisma of its leading ladies and the innovative spirit of director Nida Manzoor. Sisterhood is eternal; weird movies must be protected at all costs.

Fresh and fun and not just plain and frivolous, Polite Society does make for a delightful outing not just for the adolescents but the adolescent soul lurking within every adult.

Polite Society playfully expands the parameters of the kitchen-sink family melodrama, wresting the kitchen sink from the wall and throwing it full force at the audience.

Delivers a wild and immensely entertaining adventure with a personal sense of style and culture from its filmmaking team. Audiences might not know what they are getting into but that unknown quality is precisely what makes the film so enjoyable.

Loved the mix of teen angst, Indian culture, and action scenes. The parents are hilarious and I loved the relationship between the two sisters. Nimra Bucha is the perfect villain.

I really like this movie. It is a refreshing difference from much of what comes out of Hollywood. It's more of a "U.K." movie about Pakistani/Indian family. It's in English, and there's a lot of funny scenes, as well as some martial arts stuff. Well worth seeing.

For me it missed the mark, as seems to often be the case when it comes to British humor. I spent too much of the movie trying to figure out what it was trying to do, there were just too many factors that made it difficult for me to let go and have fun with it all. Between the difficult interpetation and the violence (foreseen, but not in all the contexts demonstated), the clash of flavors was just not suited to my tastes and standards. The social commentary was also a miss for me, somehow simultaneously both a little on the nose and way off base, and again, hard to interpret.
