Critics Consensus

Proud Mary proves Taraji P. Henson has more than enough attitude and charisma to carry an action movie -- just not, unfortunately, one this indifferently assembled.

Taraji P. Henson does her best to breathe life into this generic actioner.

Make no mistake: [Tarji P.] Henson's not the failure. The film failed her.

"Proud Mary" isn't a retro action thriller at all, but a staid family drama, and an incredibly boring one at that.

It seemed like it would be an exciting John Wick-style vehicle for Taraji P. Henson but it ended up being a complete misfire that does a disservice to her talents.

Corny bonding, insincere dramatic twists, and a legion of confounding stylistic and narrative choices makes Proud Mary a minor camp misfire.

While Taraji proves she can be in an Action Flick and the soundtrack backs her up, the plot is rather unengaging, predictable, and formula.

Such a poor movie. Boring story and to much bad music. Even the end fight is covered on a tina turner sonch, this makes it sound like a musical. A realy bad movie

Stupid action movie in the blaxploitation style of the 70s (Foxy Brown). What might have had its legitimacy back then just seems dull and boring today.
