What to Know

Critics Consensus

It hints at something greater, but ultimately, Queens lacks the substance necessary to set it apart from similarly themed Spanish comedies.

The result is an episodic feel which lends itself that much more to the sense that Queens missed its calling as a soap opera. Indeed, the film lacks the complexity, visual style, and emotional charge of decent filmmaking. Go to Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times Sep 29, 2006

The frantic artificiality of the script rarely allows the characters to breathe. This is dinner-theater farce, featherweight and juiceless. Go to Full Review Wesley Morris Boston Globe Sep 22, 2006

It feels like [Pereira] just plucked the men themselves from atop a wedding cake and stuck them in his movie, where for the most part they stand decoratively around and watch the women make suds from all this soap. Go to Full Review Robert Julian Bay Area Reporter May 14, 2020
[It] portrays Spain as a country with a sense of humor, intelligence, and tolerance that should be an example for the world to follow. With so much goodness up there on the screen, it almost seems ungrateful to criticize the film for its technical faults. Go to Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Mar 1, 2007
While straining credibility at times, offers some appealing scenes of quiet reflection, as well as a refreshing celebration of the ineffable allure and power of being middle-aged. Go to Full Review Rene Rodriguez Miami Herald Oct 6, 2006

The star-heavy cast, which includes such big Spanish names as Carmen Maura, Marisa Paredes and Veronica Forque, are a treat to watch even when their dialogue isn't all it could be. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Oct 3, 2016 The only good thing about the movie is its leading ladies. They were all exceptional! The mothers were only half the movie, the other half belongs to the sons. Their stories were too weak, the wrting there was as unimaginative as possible. Their characters were so dull that the mothers had an easy job stealing all the scenes from them. It wants to present itself as a very open-minded movie but in the end it manages to end up being a big unsatisfactory, stereotypical one. See more Feb 11, 2013 Una comedia divertida, medio pavada!! Para pasar el tiempo! See more Aug 26, 2012 We love the settings. Housing stock in South America is superb as are the restaurants and other places of activity. Why can't North America get their act together with these posh gay weddings? Sex on the train scene was a highlight, the hot mamas in another Latin cultural trend that North America needs to embrace. Jury is still out on the blond twink, that bitch left the dog! Overall, lots of drama, basically a long glorified soap opera. Needs more gay on gay action with cutes.
