Apr 3, 2020 Let me start off by saying if you are looking for a high action movie about racing, this is not it. But it is a great movie about the grassroots of NASCAR, that is family friendly. See more Feb 24, 2019 First of all, I admire all the cast, crew and writers for making this film. It was no small endeavour, I am sure. It is easy to be an armchair producer or director and quite another to bring it all to fruition. However, From a layperson's viewpoint, this B film had a lot of promise but suffers from what all B films seem to suffer from. Lack of continuity and substandard acting and/or character development. Each of the scenes in Red Dirt Rising are way too short. You just start to get involved in that moment, even wanting to see what happens and suddenly the scene is over and they are onto the next. There is no discussion of the scene, no resolution of the scene and no continuity of how that scene affects any of the characters in the remainder of the film. The scenes are fractured and happen repeatedly, to the point of resigned frustration to continue to even watch. But I did watch to the end. B films also tend to be B films because you cannot get lost in the character because the actors did not get lost in the character and are "acting". While the actors in this film seem to have a lot of potential, the writing and possibly the directing falls way short. The actors are not given enough time in any scene to embrace their character, much less are we. It seems that the film makers were trying to cover way too much of the history of early Nascar. They would have been far better off focusing on one part of that story and developing that further. A documentary may have better lent to multiple aspects of the overall story of early Nascar. I am not a film maker and do not pretend to be but I sure pay money to see them, like this one on Prime. A fabulous musician friend of mine once said, "you may not be a musician but you know what good music sounds like". I know what good movies look like and today's audiences are far more discriminating and even intelligent about film. Maybe film schools fall short in this area. Maybe it is just a gift that writers and directors have that takes a film from B to A and you can't teach it,. I don't know. The cinematography was very good. The music was too. On the other hand, I am certain all that our current A filmmakers had a number of rotten tomatoes before they reached their current respected status and this movie is a stepping stone for its makers. They should certainly keep at it and be very proud of themselves. See more Jan 8, 2011 Red Dirt Rising.....I hope they're talking about the dirt from the grave I wanted to climb into after watching this movie! We sat down to watch this "highly anticipated" film about the grassroots start of NASCAR and after 40 minutes of watching the impressively flat and monotonous Brad Yoder walking from scene to scene with the accompaniment of a cacophonous, ever present banjo we began playing "Fast Forward Bingo". You know, where you hit the fast forward button and hope you land on an interesting section of movie. Needless to say....we never hit a Bingo. Who wrote this story?! Who was the fact checker/historian here? Even the costuming was shameful! First, could you not actually attach that heinous wig to the scalp of "Mom"? Second, no pregnant woman in that time wore tight dresses. Your due date was called a "Date of Confinement" for the reason that you were never to flaunt your pregnancy, you trollop!! Third, it's not called racing when you are in a single line, going 20 mph, with no attempt to pass one another. Yeah, I played that game in pre-school...it's called follow the leader and it was just as boring when I was 4. And who knew a few sparks in the steering wheel would cause an entire car to blow to pieces?! The only cool thing was watching the one chick get smacked by her husband! At least she convincingly hit the ground with skill! Come to think of it...it wasn't the slap that sent her to the floor; she probably fell asleep while Brad Yoder and Ashlee Payne were acting in front of her. I can only hope that the medic on set hauled her away from that horrible movie in time to salvage her career! In short, please see this film so you can help me make fun of it, but don't expect to get that 1.5 hrs of life back. See more Read all reviews
