Veteran lawman Roy Pulsifer (Jeff Bridges) works for the R.I.P.D., a legendary police force charged with finding monstrous spirits who are disguised as ordinary people but are trying to avoid their final judgment by hiding out among the living. When Roy and his new partner, Nick Walker (Ryan Reynolds), uncover a plot that could end all life, they must discover a way to restore the cosmic balance or else watch the tunnel to the afterlife start sending angry souls back to the world of the living.

Critics Consensus

It has its moments -- most of them courtesy of Jeff Bridges' rootin' tootin' performance as an undead Wild West sheriff -- but R.I.P.D. is ultimately too dim-witted and formulaic to satisfy.

Overall, it's a directionless mess: too expensive for a B-movie, too grown-up for a kids' movie (funerals, bereavement and jokes about Steely Dan) and too infantile for everyone else.

R.I.P.D. isn’t nearly as bad as its near-deafening advance buzz indicated – though, really, what movie could be? – but that doesn’t mean the laughs and gasps are satisfyingly abundant in this loud and clunky sci-fi fantasy action-comedy.

I tend to like movies derived from graphic novels, and this is one of them. I think what throws a lot of people off is it's absurdity, but hey, that's graphic novels for you :) It's also an unusual mix of genres--Western, Cop, Fantasy, Romance...and it addresses grief...but again, that's not so unusual for the printed page since publishing a novel or graphic novel has only the fraction of the cost of a movie, so people can take chances.

This should have been good - combining elements of Ghostbusters, MIB and even a smidge of Ghost...and the idea was good...but Jeff Bridges' accent and Ryan Reynolds' unchanging expression just did the whole thing in. Good special effects. Kevin Bacon as the corrupt cop was rather good.

I'm genuinely confused by all the bad reviews. It's a really fun watch I thoroughly enjoyed it start to finish.

I Remember When I Was Like A Kid Like 8 Or 9 Years Old Or Something My Dad Forced Me To Watch This Movie And I Was Very Bored I Honestly Don't Like This Movie. I Love Ryan Reynolds As Deadpool He Was Amazing As Deadpool But R.I.P.D It Is Way Worse Than Green Lantern I Also Don't Like The Movie Is Well. The Last Thing I'm Gonna Say Is Ryan Reynolds Is Still A Good Actor He was Good In Deadpool Trilogy. IF. THE ADAM PROJECT.

I feel the story of the movie was poorly told, leading to a lot of plot holes and unanswered questions that made the movie really hard to understand at times. Despite its flaws, this movie was still really fun to watch, and it was full of action and hilarious moments that made it really entertaining. I definitely recommend it for action, sci-fi, and fantasy fans!
