Critics Consensus

It's going to be a long, long time before a rock biopic manages to capture the highs and lows of an artist's life like Rocketman.

Rocketman is, in some ways, a sad reminder that even in its most supposedly fantastic imaginings, Hollywood fantasies can still be so straight.

It's Taron Egerton as Elton John who carries and sells the film -- often backwards and in platform heels. Wild as it may sound to approach such a mercurial and marvelous character with beautiful restraint, Egerton's performance is meticulously calibrated.

Rocketman ramps the camp up to 11, throws on some sequinned spectacles, and sparks fireworks of pure joy in glitzy song-and-dance routines.

Rocketman is the kind of experimental, risky film that isn’t supposed to succeed - but it does. If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ll love it.

The mere fact that the film can tell the story of an at times tortured artist like Elton John while still managing to have its audience tap their feet and sing-a-long to some of his most recognisable tunes is a feat upon itself.

It’s a deeply personal film, and its willingness to showcase such reflection, instead of demanding sympathy, demonstrates a level of humbleness that’s hard not to lose yourself in, even without the radiant visuals.

They should've promoted this as a musical. I wasn't ready for the characters to spontaneously break out into song.

I like movies about real people or based on true stories. The movie was good my dislikes was expecting to hear full songs, where some were just pieces. I thought there were a few slow parts, that could have been played out better. Overall I did like the movie!
