Critics Consensus

Elevating the Dashwood sisters' relationship to the forefront of Jane Austen's classic tale of courtship, Georgia Oakley's Sense and Sensibility may not best previous adaptations but achieves a wistful identity of its own.

...a tale this bound up with love and money might have fascinating things to say to twenty-somethings still living with their parents and reportedly averse to relationships. Mostly, though, the movie just gives them actors their own age to look at. Go to Full Review

The humour, like the mossy tones and wintry light of this version, is more muted than that of Lee’s film, but Marianne delivers many of the most satisfying lines. Go to Full Review

What makes the film a fresh, if not altogether revelatory, take on the material is the intimacy and sincerity with which it presents Elinor and Marianne’s parallel journeys. Go to Full Review

It’s almost impressive how this adaptation bungles one of literature’s most sparkling stories, clanging flat on every emotional note. Go to Full Review

Christopher 2 days ago Sense and sensibility was great. If it wasn't for screen unseen I wouldn't have seen it. I'm glad I did See more mark c 3 days ago Sense and sensibility was good See more Paige W 4 days ago Love everything about this series, and what a fun surprise this time - fantastic movie and fantastic surprise that Sense and Sensibility was the secret movie!!! See more dlma1 M @dlma1 6 hrs ago This was the Cinemark "Secret Movie". I'm not a Jane Austen fan. But I paid my 5 bucks, so I decided to watch it! For those of you unfamiliar with the story (including yours truly), the story essentially is an 18th century soap opera. A mother and her three daughters are forced to live in a cottage after the patriarch of the family unexpectedly leaves the estate to their half-brother and his snotty wife. At the cottage, the two older daughters meet and fall in love with two handsome men who may or not be suitable for them, all the while an equally handsome but a painfully shy Colonel pines away for one of them. It is well acted and filmed but I am not sure that we needed a third copy of the same story. However, to be fair, it is fine for romance novel fans, and I can recommend it for them (just not me). 7/10. See more Callie B @atolgiraffe 9 hrs ago that is grant chapman. The acting is good and the Directing works well. A film from a classic novel and well worth going to see. See more Read all reviews
