Bumbling Chon Wang (Jackie Chan) works as an Imperial guard in the Forbidden City of China. When Princess Pei Pei (Lucy Liu) is taken hostage, Wang pursues her captors to the wild frontier land of Nevada, where he meets good-natured thief and occasional cowboy Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson). Using O'Bannon's love of money, Wang convinces him to help recover the princess, and together the two form a curious partnership -- the likes of which the West has never seen.

Although the plot is really nothing to brag about, Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson work well together. The cinematography looks great, and Jackie delivers a hilarious performance. This is an old-fashioned crowd-pleaser.

It's a clever variation on the buddy cop picture, with Jackie Chan showing both his comic chops and his martial arts skills, and Owen Wilson doing what he does best-playing a laid-back, chick-magnet California surfer dude.

Jackie Chan movies are my comfort films and Shanghai noon is a dated fun watch. Must of the jokes fall flat and the plot is predictable but Jackie Chan doing his thing is always a joy. What happens in the film you probably won’t think about afterwards but you will be able to shut off your brain for a little bit and have fun 6.4/10

Lots of fun for the most part: Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson are a good match, the former excelling as always in the department of amusing fight scenes, and the latter delivering a very enjoyable comedic performance all around. "Shanghai Noon" blends various styles and contains some hilarious lines and moments, and so it's unfortunate that it doesn't go out with a bang, instead resorting to a much too tidy, no-questions-asked finale wherein everything works out perfectly simply because it has to.
