Critics Consensus

There isn't much to Sneakers' plot -- and that's more than made up for with the film's breezy panache and hi-tech lingo.

Part of the pleasure afforded by such a sequence comes from the careful exposition of intricate teamwork, combined with an adroit attention to the personalities involved.

It's a surprise to discover a cerebral, 25-year-old film following the blueprint for today's endless glut of superhero movies.

Sneakers often feels like it was made by a computer, but with a cast this likable you can watch it without feeling programmed.

More than thirty years after its release, the film holds up as both a sharp caper and a prescient warning about the digital age.

An all-star cast does its best with a bad script. What started out as an intriguing caper film devolves into a series of absurdities and cliches.

Some movies age better than others...not this one. Showcasing some of the best actors of the time including new talent like River Phoenix and David Strathairn, the movie feels belabored and exhausting. The principals are too old and the plotline is way too complicated for its worth. A must in the Redford oeuvre but a keeper.

This has a combination of some of the greatest actors of film the world has ever seen. There is Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier and a couple of cameos from some all-time greats as well. Here, they are not making a groundbreaking tour de force film. They are just making an enjoyable, lighthearted heist film. And as far as heist films go, this one is pretty entertaining. It has a fair bit of suspense, memorable characters and a good splash of comedy. Yes, they have a very 90's idea of how computers work, and the movie could have been shorter. But overall, it was a fun time.
