Critics Consensus

Street Kings contains formulaic violence but no shred of intelligence.

Keanu Reeves' bad-boy cop Tom Ludlow may not play by the rules, but the film sure does.

There's plenty of empty bravura, and Reeves is fundamentally blank and uninteresting.

Beyond a certain on-the-nose contrast in performances and a sense of déjà vu from other movies like it, Kings of the Street is a dignified, noble and, ultimately, quite effective offering. [Full review in Spanish]

Swimming in bloody violence, Street Kings has plenty of holes, and it is way over the top. But you also have the sense that the filmmakers are not trying to exaggerate.

Still, as corrupt cop films go, Street Kings has got its moments, and if nothing else it certainly does entertain.

Entertaining. Not as bad as the ratings suggest, but still a middle‑of‑the‑pack crime‑action movie. Reeves plays the same character he’s been doing with slight tweaks, so you’ve seen it before. Cast is decent. Script and direction are formulaic at best. Fine for a popcorn bucket, but probably not the kind of movie you would want to own for your DVD collection.

Preposterous and yet somehow dull. A lot of talent is wasted in this painted by numbers cop movie - especially a criminally underused Hugh Laurie.

Worth much more than the "critics" reviews. Well directed, written and brought to screen. Stellar cast and all of them really convincing in character. Great cinematography and visually stunning. Action sequences are all very well planned and choreographed. Enough drama, intrigue, twists, suspense, blood & guts, emotion, gunfights and street fighting. Fast paced and entertaining

If you expect to watch a filosofal and profound movie this ain't it. It's action, crime, no filters. Great movie.
