It has good overall performances by the cast but the bad-guy in this was pretty mid I gotta say. It was just CGI. But it definitely counts as a great movie to watch. The soundtrack is every Spielberg film you've seen before which is a good thing but I wish it was a bit more distinct on its own. The special effects are really good too but I do wish the creature design was practically done. I mean it looks good and I love how we don't see it until the very end but it kind of looks like every CGI alien from 2000 to now that we've seen before. And I think that the biggest thing here I wish this had more of, distinctness. Everything here reminds me of something else which might be by design given it's JJ behind the camera here who does have really good direction here. The kids feel like the kids from all 80's family movies like The Goonies & ET (again not a bad thing) and the setting and ending reminds me of Close Encounters. The mystery that unravels is interesting and does pull you in the entire time. It does get a bit messy though trying to link the romance, developing the backstory of the kids, the underlying mystery unfolding from the kid and the Dad cops perspectives. It does work though and draw you into the conspiracy/mystery going on though. A testament to how well it's made or rather how well it understands the things its borrowing from. If your a fan of Spielberg, JJ, any actors here, Sci-Fi, or thrillers give this a shot. It's JJ at his finest in a sense. See more Richard W @rdwoolf Sep 26 I think the best way to describe SUPER 8 is...it's The Goonies Vs. Predator! It reminds me a lot of watching Steven Spielberg films in the eighties as a kid. And I think that was exactly what J. J. Abrams was trying to do when he made it. SUPER 8 is very nostalgic for the era when kids could roam the streets like wild animals...and have adventures without parents being involved or even knowing what they were doing...as long as they were home by the time the street lights came on. The story was beautiful and compelling, and it was so much fun to watch. If you like Stranger Things, you'll definitely like this movie. I definitely recommend it for sci-fi and thriller fans!
