TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 2h Super Troopers 2 is absolutely stupid, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works. I watched the first and third movies before getting to this one, and the franchise has a strange ability to keep you entertained despite how ridiculous everything is. The screenplay isn’t brilliant, but it doesn’t really need to be. These movies are built around incompetent police officers doing things that make you wonder how they were ever hired in the first place. Somehow, watching them be this ridiculous becomes the entire appeal I actually found this installment hilarious. Sasso, Rob Lowe, and Sean William Scott all add something to the mix, and the cast commits completely to the absurdity. That’s what makes the movie work for the audience it’s targeting Critics can hate it all they want, but this franchise clearly has an audience that enjoys exactly this kind of stupid comedy. However, I feel like it is a lesser movie, and the laughs feel kind of sparse. Some moments did make me laugh, and it's clear the cast enjoyed this reunion. The movie just has no story and is strictly focused on comedy, which can make it less engaging at times. Overall, there is some fun to be had if you enjoy the hijinks of these characters, but it doesn't feel like a comedy worth recommending to anyone except major fans of the original. The cast remains solid and having a lot of fun, especially the Canadian actors playing Montys, playfully mocking their own country. However, the story is just an excuse for a series a skits, some which are great (the bear scene and the montage of them pretending to by Monty's is hilarious). It doesn't amount to much of a movie though, with a story too complicated for its own good. A fun watch but not as good as the first.
