Vicaria is a brilliant teenager who believes death is a disease that can be cured. After the brutal and sudden murder of her brother, she embarks on a dangerous journey to bring him back to life. Inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, THE ANGRY BLACK GIRL AND HER MONSTER thematically challenges our ideas of life and death. Bomani J. Story, the film's writer and director, crafts a thrilling tale about a family that, despite the terrors of systemic pressure, will survive and be reborn again.

Mr. Story’s sense of restraint is acute, the suggestion of dread being as awful as the overtly dreadful.

Numerous writers use spare parts from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein story to assemble something patchwork for their purposes. Few, however, have done it as seamlessly as writer and director Bomani J. Story.

This is a very promising debut... Because it is so good, I got very disappointed when it loses a lot of steam in the end.

Laya DeLeon Hayes as Vicaria is electric as the tortured yet determined creator and the film itself is an incredible interpretation and modernisation of a gothic work from over 300 years ago

Great acting, for a low-budget movie. Special effects were ok. The plot did not quite come full-circle, the way I would have liked.

A refreshing new take on Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, with outstanding performances. Debut director's use of the supernatural horror to shine a raw spotlight on oppression and suppression of African-American society. A strong first effort, I look forward to seeing much more of his vision.
