There are some very funny bits here, but unfortunately the concept takes too long getting off the ground, leaving the first three-quarters of the movie floating in limbo, waiting for it to all make sense. Go to Full Review John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter Sep 4, 2020
Viewers who get through a credulity-testing second act may laugh enough in the third to be glad they did. Go to Full Review Peter Debruge Variety Sep 4, 2020
Stanford and Schwartzman's cutesy skirmish doesn't feel honest; if it were, "The Argument" would probably admit that none of these people are ready for a relationship. Go to Full Review Natasha Alvar The Critical Movie Critics May 15, 2021
The Argument is the furthest thing from a generic romantic comedy, and I really enjoyed the mesh of the theatrical and cinematic space. Kudos to writer Zac Stanford for the cleverness of this screenplay, and creating something I won't soon forget. Go to Full Review Charles Koplinski Reel Talk with Chuck and Pam Nov 27, 2020

Stanford creates a brilliantly funny script from which the actors work. Go to Full Review Karen Martin Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Nov 6, 2020
It takes a while to get where it's going, but patience pays off. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

BG T @RT26399841 Sep 16, 2026 Great comedic acting/timing. Simple but unique story. Definitely worth a watch. See more Keith B @Okbullard Aug 17, 2026 This is such a letdown and complete garbage. Don't waste your time. See more Joshua W @Maneuser Mar 3, 2026 People need to know what’s going on within 5 minutes thanks to their social media attention spans lol this is a great movie See more Jul 11, 2022 I was really excited to see this when I saw who was in it. However the first 45 minutes are painful to watch. It doesn't become funny till Danny and Maggies characters start to snap. It's sad in a movie where the whole premise is about an argument between the two main characters, the best part of the movie is the argument happening between the co-stars. See more Jan 26, 2021 Robert expertly steered the wit of Stanford's script throughout the first act set up, and truly let his style shine with the upbeat montage that captured Jack and Lisa's bizarre descent into madness with such delight as well as the should-stop-but-can't participation of their peers with brilliance. Pairing that with Robert's comical and informed takes on people from all walks of the entertainment industry makes for an absolute joy of a film!
