Critics Consensus

Somewhere inside The Beast Within lies a clever riff on the werewolf genre, but it struggles to claw through a lack of incident and specificity.

The Beast Within isn’t a terrible film, but sadly it is not a particularly great one either, so ham-fisted is its approach to its central themes.

The polished craft contributions and solid cast help to round out a tight production package. But it’s one built around a concept that doesn’t entirely work in the end.

The actual ideas that might lift this above ordinary genre fare fall short, while the vivid tension and anxious character identification needed to excel on a humbler plane never quite arrive.

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten a good werewolf movie, and while The Beast Within may not be destined to be a classic, it has more up its sleeve than a pair of hairy claws.

What we end up with is an almost entirely forgettable werewolf outing that had something it wanted to say, but was entirely too late to do it.

Finally, a clever, serious and complex take on the lycanthrope genre. Don't expect all out "Dog Soldiers" action, the movie is tasteful, arty and has something to say. We LOVED it.

I really enjoyed how the film was shot from the daughters perspective. It really highlights the importance of a childs perspective at home and that every experience shapes who they are. I loved the ending because it tied the message together in such an unexpected way & I kept thinking about every scene over & over again on the way home. This film was definitely a nice surprise & I would recommend to my friends.

The film was thoughtful in it's approach and left the viewer at the end piecing things together in a way that was masterfully produced. It touches on real life issues but totally leaves it up to you for interpretation. Amazing!

This might be the biggest surprise of the year for me. I went in with low expectations and a desire to get away from all the Marvel craze. Firstly, the cinematography is stunning. Really sensitive and expert filmmaking and so happy that the producers and director chose a path of slow burning tension and dread rather than cheap thrills. The kid actor, Caoilinn Springall? She is a superstar in the making and I'll be following her career with keen interest.

Im so glad I managed to catch this in Theaters. The performances of all the cast is nothing short of phenomenal. Really emotional ride and a refreshing take on werewolf sub genre. I loved the ending which - no spoilers - really does tie it all together. Definitely worth a watch - I hope it gets a streaming deal or something!

Wow, this film has really stuck with me. I found it really affecting and haunting in the best ways. It is more of a psychological thriller than a horror but told through the eyes of a 10 year old girl which make the nuances and fairytale elements even more telling.
