Wes Sep 26, 2024 Maybe I would have appreciated it more if I was an adult back in the 70s. Boring. It’s interesting getting a look at 70s urban blight. Union Square became a big skate spot 20 years later. Movies like this are why Star Wars was such a hit and came at the right time. What a contrast! See more Alexander Aug 18, 2024 Super boring. Francis made this after The Godfather and even explains in the mini interview that he did not screen it with anyone except for a few babysitters. Maybe he knew subconsciously that this is a terrible movie and couldnt stand any honest feedback. Waste of my time and money. I walked out less than halfway into it. See more Andy B @AndyB21 1 day ago A slow and dense character study, somewhat redeemed by the plot twist at the end. Too many of the characters are just there to hand out backstory details though, as the protagonist is too closed-off to do that, and the film does suffer in terms of pacing. See more Bronn B @RT31774873 Oct 1, 2026 This movie is a boring slog that shows how pretentious Hollywood is. The main character is a closed-off autistic tech nerd who works in surveillance. He is unlikable but he has a young and attractive casual girlfriend and booth babes at trade conventions throw themselves at him (there’s a minor plot twist later). There’s some routine surveillance at the beginning, then half the movie is about a trade show and nerds hanging out, followed by the climax that is unsatisfying as an 18 year old virgin. Because he’s closed-off, plot details rely on “friends” who are belligerent and off-putting (mean-spirited drunks). There’s no happy ending, the character becomes even more paranoid as a result of his work, and the big plot twist is so poorly done it’s underwhelming. It’s an art house slog like 2001. People rave about it, but people in the 60s were on acid and few people watched it or have rewatched it. 2010 is a superior movie, but not artistic and doesn’t have a famous director. Pass. See more E D @EEEEEEEEEEE Sep 26, 2026 As a story and the depth of the characters it is a good movie, but I feel it misses the mark on pacing. While suspenseful it can drag on a bit at times even with the psychological backstory. Worth a watch as a secondary choice, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it over better paced movies. See more nick S @Nick_S Aug 25, 2026 Whilst a curious character study with some interesting themes, the movie really didn't have enough of anything to justify it's runtime. Hackman did a great job of looking bewildered, though it did get a bit tedious. Just not enough stimulating moments. Good but not great in my opinion. See more Read all reviews
