Critics Consensus

The Greasy Strangler definitely isn't for everyone, but filmgoers in step with its off-kilter stride are in store for a singular cinematic experience.

You embrace The Greasy Strangler for what it is: surrender to its vile idiocy and have the time of your life, or walk away, dull, boring and oh-so-clever.

Despite its repulsiveness, The Greasy Strangler has a dreamlike quality about it: It's so un-life-like, that you're transported to a fantasy world that's unmistakably a cinematic creation.

Make this the greasiest feast since that goose you cooked on Christmas...a good time for all, and a great excuse to let loose and become your most primal self.

The Greasy Strangler becomes an exhausting slog. Such paltry ambitions make the film the exact opposite of everything it's longing to be. In a word, it's boring.

Did you enjoy Andy Kaufman's humor? Painfully unfunny your thing? Then this film is for you. Take an unfunny premise/line, beat it to death, and then defile the corpse. It's the quality of movie you would have made in your senior year of high school while drunk/stoned out of your mind. Do yourself a favor and spend the time you would use watching this to instead hang out with your least enjoyed aquaintance; you'll have a better time. Yikes.

This movie was enlightening. My whole philosophy on life has changed, because of this masterpiece. Please be prepared to possibly cry in tears as you are engulfed by Jim Hoskink's work.
