Following her rescue from the devastating Quarter Quell, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) awakes in the complex beneath the supposedly destroyed District 13. Her home, District 12, has been reduced to rubble, and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) is now the brainwashed captive of President Snow (Donald Sutherland). At the same time, Katniss also learns about a secret rebellion spreading throughout all of Panem -- a rebellion that will place her at the center of a plot to turn the tables on Snow.

Critics Consensus

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 sets up the franchise finale with a penultimate chapter loaded with solid performances and smart political subtext, though it comes up short on the action front.

The meat of this franchise seems more in line with Edward Bernays than any fantasy or sci-fi author. This latest edition takes public relations to its bloodiest extreme.

This is certainly a film adults can get into. The explosions, propaganda techniques, and unrest are a reminder of a history not entirely out of reach; a world and society all too realistic. for many living today.

It may be the franchise's third movie, but it plays like its 'Empire Strikes Back.'

Mockingjay Part 1 is not a flawless story from start to finish ... but I still love it for taking the unexpected route of a slow-burn political thriller that dives deeper into the power of intellectual and media-driven warfare.

Set aside criticisms about dividing the final film. Mockingjay Part 1 is a serviceable extrapolation of the series' interest in personal vs public responsibility & PTSD. The adult cast is stacked, though dir Lawrence's focus is clearly action over actors

OH. MY. GOSH. This franchise keeps getting more and more fantastic. The drama, the conflict, the acting in this film is just so good. Josh Hutcherson’s acting is really impressive when his character Peeta is slowly getting controlled by the Capitol, also President Snow is really menacing in this movie. I really liked the plot of katniss becoming the mockingjay only to messed with snow. My only complaint from this film is that this movie kinda relies on the “tell don’t show” trope which kinda ruins some opportunities to show us what happens what the characters are talking about, but I guess it was for budget savings, overall this has to be one of my favorite hunger games film of all time.

Good continuation of an excellent story. Extra layer of the universe added with significant new character. Clever twist late on and sets up next film well.
