Critics Consensus

If the breezily enjoyable The Lovebirds feels like a little less than the sum of its parts, it's still an enjoyable showcase for the talents of its well-matched stars.

It doesn't really feel like it has a script. It feels like it has bullet points and these actors are going from bullet point to bullet point, improving the whole time.

I'll take The Lovebirds as the representation progress it is, but I wish there was more to this than Rae's and Nanjiani's considerable-but not wholly redemptive-charm.

The acting isn't terrible -- it's more so the writing that's terrible...You can't just waste away talent like Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani

Diversity doesn't instantly transform a movie into a "good film", especially when the narrative is packed with the genre's repetitive plot points, cliches, and silly character decisions.

At the end of the day what makes [Lovebirds] so enjoyable for me is Rae and Nanjiani. They give a stellar performance and make one heck of a comedy duo, and their chemistry together is great.

This viewer thoroughly enjoyed the chemistry between the actors, Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani that practically made the movie, not considering the high-jinx that went on throughout. Supporting cast also contributed to what made this comedy so enjoyable! To this viewer, must overlook any serious drama and just enjoy the ride!! Alex b

Hysterical. This is the funniest movies ever.

It's an enjoyable way to spend 80 minutes, but it gets bogged down by nonstop makeshift improv that detracts from properly exploring the romance at the center.

Loved every second of it. Really good mixture of comedy and romance.

This was such a fun movie. I love both actors to begin with, and it was a fast paced, entertaining journey!
