The Mortuary Assistant lacks the light to contrast with the shadows: Rebecca and Raymond are both dark, tormented, oblique characters, occupying dark, tormented, stylised worlds, and there’s very little light to balance it out.

Ironically, for a film which based on a video game, it feels like it’s really leaning into arthouse film territory. If you have the patience, then you’ll certainly be rewarded for watching.
