Action, horror, and humor don’t always blend smoothly, and several promising concepts feel underdeveloped. I went in blind, not expecting the Hyde twist and loved it, all the hints at different monsters and a bigger story. It's not deep, it's trying to do a lot of things. Guess I like the mix and I enjoyed how it ended. I don't think it was a remake of anything. It felt like fanfair of monsters, a mash up. Totally fun. The characters are pretty straightforward even though they wanted to make some of them more complex or give them an arc. The story is also simple, but at the same time it doesn't always make sense. The ways characters get separated is sometimes ridiculous. This film is also a lot more comedic and erotic than I remembered. I didn't get Russel Crowe's character at all. I wonder how much Christopher McQuarrie was involved with this one, because they never talk about it. The directing isn't too bad, I liked that the tone was pretty comedic, but the dialogues didn't do it justice. The fight scenes are really good. The cinematography is also pretty good with some really well-shot sequences, but some others do look bad. Although much of that might be because of the wonky CGI. The casting is somewhat good, but there are some miscasts. The Mummy isn't unwatchable, but it bleeds from many wounds. See more Read all reviews
