Critics Consensus

Reinvigorating an ancient adventure with majestic sweep and sterling work by its colossal ensemble, Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey imbues myth with primal human feeling.

Audience Says

A cinematic epic fit for the biggest screens, The Odyssey proves with technical precision and unrestrained grandeur that there’s no filmmaker quite like Christopher Nolan to steer Odysseus’ voyage home.

What you really need to do is keep your eyes wide open while enjoying a titanic film that may not be perfect but will keep you glued to your seat and eager to talk about it on the way out. [Full review in Spanish]

Like the filmmaker’s last work, ‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘The Odyssey’ has a downbeat, apocalyptic bent—but, unlike ‘Oppenheimer,’ or any previous Nolan film, the new film is also centrally about what human beings owe one another.

The only way to truly understand what Christopher Nolan has managed to create is to sit in a theater seat and experience firsthand a work of art that is, quite simply, a masterful display of cinema.

Nolan's exploration of THE ODYSSEY is much more interested in questioning the concept of glory than it is displaying it. While that may feel counter to the epic, I feel it's a worthy mission in the modern age of repeated horrors.

A classical Christopher Nolan film with an underlying message to walk away and chew on. I thoroughly enjoyed to sound effects, characters, and interpretation of the plot.

This was beautiful on 70mm film projection - worth it to see on the big screen. I had issues with the writing and the editing which feel so fundamental to the heart of the film that it was a little offensive that those elements weren’t the best part.

God awful garbage. Unfit to bear the title of Homer’s Odyssey.
