What to Know

Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

If you're looking for a well-made, gritty thriller — and a reminder that Ben and Matt are the two best friends in the entire world — The Rip is definitely worth the stream. Go to Full Review

The film starts off strong, with tense moments and some intrigue, but becomes bogged down by mindless, glossy, Netflix-ized action in its final stretch. Go to Full Review

Henry F @RT54265050 14 hrs ago Overall, I thought the film was really good, with the action and twists being one of its strongest aspects. However, I thought the beginning was very slow paced and the dialogue wasn’t amazing. Ultimately, I thought the film was a good watch and would definitely recommend it to people who enjoy suspenseful crime thrillers. See more Peter W @RT12077588 20 hrs ago The Rip is an absolute surprise, a sharp, gripping cat and mouse thriller packed with memorable characters and constant twists. Just when you think you’ve locked in where the story is heading, doubt creeps in and the film nudges you to rethink everything. Seeing Affleck and Damon back on screen together is as effective as ever, their chemistry remains effortless and engaging. The real standout, though, is Joe Carnahan, whose direction and screenplay deliver sustained mystery, mounting suspense, and an early hook that pulls you in immediately. Add to that the film’s striking lighting, controlled colour tones, and simmering tension, and you’ve got a thriller that lingers well beyond the final showdown. It can be tense and interesting, and has a few decent twists and turns, but the third act felt underwhelming and stale. However, the build-up is strong enough for me to recommend this film. See more Sheree B @SBrea Sep 29, 2026 So shocked by the high ratings. Terrible movie, huge disappointment. See more Carlos P @CarlosZOD Sep 28, 2026 "The movie is pretentious, tries to become a cult classic on its first attempt, and the seams are showing... the performances are dramatically over-the-top, and the plot is extremely weak—it doesn't even bother trying to explain itself. I'll tell you what really happened: they shot a movie with zero budget and adapted a plot to a single street that could be filmed without a set.and I'm sure it'll get nominated for an Oscar... because everyone is out here saying this is better than The Sixth Sense... Classic.." See more Read all reviews
