Critics Consensus

Although it deserves credit for its strong cast and inclusive premise, They/Them is too tonally messy to cut more than skin deep.

Audience Says

The clichés outnumber the chills in They/Them, keeping this clumsy slasher from executing on its potentially interesting ideas.

It comes off like the filmmaker had no idea what kind of story he wanted to create around his capable cast. Go to Full Review

“They/Them” never connects on a gut level, as a horror movie should. It’s too somber and plodding — a “message movie” delivered in a drab package. Go to Full Review

There is little redeeming value to They/Them. It fails as an escapist slasher flick for queer kids to vicariously live through, and it doesn’t make a strong case for dismantling conversion camps. Go to Full Review

Nick W @NickWalker 10 hrs ago Really entertaining slasher flick with LGBT themes such as self-acceptance and was overall a really good watch. 10/10. See more Russell H @RT85733992 Oct 2, 2026 Kept me entertained. Some over acting but not to the point of comedy. Just the right amount of Bacon. See more Johann D. M @Johann33 Jun 28, 2026 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ An unconventional slasher with plenty of wasted potential. The film deserves credit for its diversity and inclusive representation, as well as for centering on a cast of compelling characters, but the screenplay simply does not hold together. Many scenes drag on without building suspense, the horror atmosphere is surprisingly weak, and the story relies far too heavily on familiar slasher clichés. Although its social commentary on the horrors of conversion camps is relevant and important, it gradually gets overshadowed by an unfocused plot and an unconvincing mystery. The rushed ending and disappointing killer reveal only make matters worse. Theo Germaine is easily the standout, bringing confidence and charisma to every scene, while Kevin Bacon delivers a chilling performance as the camp director. With a stronger script, better pacing, and a more effective horror atmosphere, this could have been a much more memorable slasher. See more Arthur M @RT85046091 Jun 8, 2026 This movie changed my life on so many levels. I have seen it so many times I can watch it in my head. The writing is absolutely phenominal, and Baltazar and Old Duke's acting was fantastic. My favorite part was when Gabriel said "is it cold" to Stu. We made a list of every quote from the movie and we ranked every one. My brother said his favorite character was the girl jumping on the bed in the end of singing "f-ing perfect". We love the acting of Jordan, especially their scene when they said "im strong enough to not do this. I think this represents a really important message to society and it should be shown to young kids to make them woke. This movie was directed by amazing queer geniuses. I cry everyday thinking about this impactful movie. It makes me so sad evil people like evil crazy Owen are out there. Angie did her big one sliming him out. Jordan took and L at the end but we still love our nonbinary goat. Ill forever recomend ts. No AI used, respect renew rejoce and revenge.🥰 See more Trinity B @RT97202942 May 26, 2026 I didn't think this movie was bad, it was an enjoyable campy movie watch. I wouldn't put it under horror but maybe more thriller/campy. It's plot is about a 6/10, while the acting was 9/10! Everyone did amazing. Though I do think the name of this movie doesn't show what to expect. If it was more centered around one character i would understand it but it more so is around the conversion camp as a whole. See more Aron R. @radmanster77 Apr 5, 2026 Absolutely horrible movie no horror at all, it's leftists garbage. Kevin bacon and the entire cast should be ashamed this is junk. See more Read all reviews
