Critics Consensus

This post-Watergate thriller captures the paranoid tenor of the times, thanks to Syndey Pollack's taut direction and excellent performances from Robert Redford and Faye Dunaway.

Sydney Pollack doesn't have a knack for action pulp. Go to Full Review

This peerless Sydney Pollack thriller hasn't just aged well, it's become positively prophetic, or at least eerily resonant. Go to Full Review

A piece of dotty, slightly paranoid intrigue. Three Days of the Condor promises little and keeps its word. It is hard to get indignant about it, or enthusiastic either. Go to Full Review

Spy thrillers have been romanticized since their early days on screen but films like Three Days of the Condor returned the genre to its realistic roots. Go to Full Review

The fourth of six collaborations from Pollack and Robert Redford, “Condor” was their first joint project in the spy genre. On the 50th anniversary of its release in 1975, the film exposes espionage that could still be happening in our country today. Go to Full Review

Leon H @RT13589101 2 days ago Finally caught up with this classic paranoia thriller 51 years after it's initial release on an obscure British terrestrial channel (that didn't offer subtitles so I missed some of the early scene setting dialogue due to the poor audio). Putting aside the somewhat dated 70s setting, and the dubious sex scene - the circumstances leading to which just wouldn't fly in a film made now - this is an excellent, absorbing and well-written paranoia thriller from director Sydney Pollack and an always watchable and charismatic Robert Redford. Peppered with some fantastic dialogue, and a really unexpected 3rd act twist, this is definitely worth a watch. 8th October 2026 See more Eric D @Ekdguitar 2 days ago I read the book and found it extremely well-written, well paced, and thoughtful. Not at all boring and quite believable. If the movie makers had stuck to the book, the movie would have been great. Of course, it's dated. Typical "trying to be gritty" in a very mid-70's fashion that was out of style by the end of the decade, but setting that aside, the plot and the relationship between the lovers was completely wrong. They turned a fantastic and believable tale of loyalty and betrayal into a mishmash of confusing plot points and character interactions that were incoherent and nonsensical. I know they paid for the book. I just wish they had read it. If they would have followed the book they would have had a tight, believable, exciting, fast paced, and very intelligent thriller. Instead, they made a mess. The acting was, of course, very good. The music was great for the times, but very faded. And why move it to New York? Tax reasons? A good book ruined. A real postcard from the 70's. See more Robert C. @RT62398999 May 25, 2026 Good thriller, but that sex scene between Redford’s and Dunaway’s character is ridiculous. That would never fly today.
