1971. A nation stands divided over the escalating war in Vietnam. Thousands of young Americans lie dead on foreign soil. And at Fort Polk, Louisiana, thousands more prepare to join them. The specter of combat hangs over the men of A-Company, Second Platoon, as they enter the final stage of infantry training. They will be sent to the war. But each man deals with this prospect in his own way. One man's defiance, however, galvanizes every member of the platoon.

This take on Vietnam War doesn't break new thematic ground but it's Schumacher's best film since the 1993 Falling Down, and it showcases the talents of newcomer Colin Farrell, who has everything that it takes to become a major Hollywood star Go to Full Review Geoff Andrew Time Out Jun 24, 2006
Stylistically this is more interesting and more affected than Schumacher's Flawless. Either way, it's a big improvement on his past tendentious nonsense. Go to Full Review Peter Travers Rolling Stone Jun 4, 2001

Even when the script overtaxes the allegory about how Vietnam divided a nation at home, Schumacher and the actors prevail by fixing their sights on what happens to men on that last stop before the game of war becomes a grim reality. Go to Full Review Tom Meek Cambridge Day Jul 8, 2020
It's nothing like the first half of Full Metal Jacket, but an intriguing companion watch. Go to Full Review James Plath Movie Metropolis May 4, 2012

I wouldn't put Tigerland in the top ranks of war movies, but it's a solid second-tier entry that makes you think about the characters. Go to Full Review Eric Melin Scene-Stealers.com Jun 27, 2011

Farrell is the best thing about the film, which veers into oversentimentality quite a bit for a film that's shot with such a gritty aesthetic. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Sarabeth R @destry Jul 15, 2026 Very talented young actors See more Leaburn O @RT35452347 Jan 4, 2026 There are many excellent war films and this one focuses on training camp before the Vietnam War. Obviously this can’t be expected to match Full Metsl Jacket but instead we get a darker and more rebellious version of the genre in this compelling tale, led by Farrell’s strong performance. Watched on DVD. See more Johannes S @RT64416087 Nov 18, 2025 Great acting and a solid plot. The camera movement is incredibly shaky at times, which I disliked. See more Frans B @FransB Sep 27, 2025 Great movie. Joel Schumacher did good with this one. Stellar cast excels in character. Brings an authenticity to the genre with good cinematography and visuals. Well written and brought to screen. Gritty, adventurous, enough action, to the point. See more Bill E @RT51687421 Jun 24, 2025 This movie is not good. The problem is the screenplay. It's total garbage. Some guy named Klavan wrote this crap. It was the first and last script he ever wrote. He never got hired again.
