Critics Consensus

Heartwarming, funny, and beautifully animated, Toy Story 4 manages the unlikely feat of extending -- and perhaps concluding -- a practically perfect animated saga.

Not absolute top-flight Pixar. No embarrassment either.

Pixar by the numbers, this third and largely unnecessary sequel to Toy Story delivers everything you'd expect from the animation studio, minus the warmth, wit, and dread.

Toy Story 4 is so fast and light on its feet that it's easy to ignore that it's a pretty minor adventure.

The characters retain their charisma and are developed enough to ensure you don't leave feeling dissatisfied. Unfortunately, even the final farewell...never quite manages to have that impact. [Full review in Spanish]

Toy Story 4 is simultaneously laugh-out-loud funny and deeply emotional. The animation is as beautiful as ever and the film is chock-full of delightful characters.

This installment feels like another action-adventure film rather than an emotionally resonate film that breaks new ground. It also pulls punches on its villains and the implications of the villains’ actions.

My kids had to see it and even they weren’t all that impressed with it by the end. This was the first Toy Story movie that felt completely unnecessary.

The animation is amazing, and the voice cast is strong as usual. The story is actually pretty solid too, even if it's a bit of Pixar predictability at times. The issues here are with the original characters being sidelined so much. Buzz's role is reduced mostly to the comic relief with no real character development, Jessie is given very little to do, and everyone plays a mostly pointless role in favor of new characters that while fun at times, are no where near as memorable or lovable. And the main problem that will always stand for me, is that this movie did not need to exist.
