Critics Consensus

A terrific performance by Felicity Huffman carries this unconventional but touching transgender road movie.

... ultimately, it is about the primacy of family and friends, and how decency begets decency.

It's a very likeable film. With a big heart, good intentions and a sharp eye for social absurdities, it can hardly be anything else.

The entire tone of the film takes on a kind of patronizing view of Bree that is consistently frustrating at best and deeply offensive at worst.

Felicity Huffman may well balance off her mantle come March 5 with an Oscar to complement the Emmy she scored for Desperate Housewives in September.

A challenging film both for its subject matter and its brutal honesty and, at times, graphic imagery.

Spoiler free - A very boring and predictable tale, with the expected uninspiring writing that comes along with the subject matter. The acting was average at best, and seemed everybody was there more for a check, than actually creating something that gets the audience invested. So many better options in the genre that don't rely on a gimmick to try to stand out.

The way that this film was done brought so many aspects of gender dysphoria and transexualism to light in a very poignant and powerfully "stealth" way. Felicity Huffman's performance has made an impact on society with this film.
