Critics Consensus

Unbroken: Path to Redemption overestimates the power of its inspirational real-life story, settling for a dull drama that too often preaches to the choir.

It sounds so simple. And in Unbroken: Path to Redemption, it's portrayed exactly that way. You don't need a whole movie for that kind of experience. All you have to do is read the title.

Unnecessarily prolonged, and a fussy addition to a film about Zamperini that already exists.

Worthwhile religious movies explore the implications and the lived experience of faith or perhaps illuminate the reality of life without it. Path to Redemption has no interest in the first and isn't up to the second.

It has some pacing problems... but I still thought it was pretty moving.

There is never any evidence on display here that director Harold Cronk has any interest about any aspect of Zamperini's life except for his religious conversion and as a result, the film is little more than a listless melodrama.

All the dramatic cues are there, and many of the faces convey an eagerness that is admirable, but every simpering scene of false sincerity moves to the rhythm of some shallow after-school special.

Wasn't a huge budget, but did a great job with money available. The first one was better. Love these stories of Faith and Integrity.

Compared to the first, this one better explains the protagonist's emotional side. All Italians are Catholic, so the Woksists who criticize him for talking about God and Jesus are pitiful. The idea is that God (he could have been of any religion) helped him get back to life.

Loved it and I loved the first movie and I'm happy to see they came back and followed the first up. It shows the struggle of a man who's battling from what would probably be ptsd from horrible treatment in ww2 camps for pows and his path to redemption and being saved by the one true God Jesus Who alone is the only true peace and salvation we can have

Horrendous, horrendous film. Exploiting the success of a Hollywood film to grab the money from Christians, pander to them, and neglect rather important things like good acting, plotting, and other necessities.
