If the answer is yes, what more do you want?” - Kandinsky See more General X @General_X Sep 29, 2026 It's wild that people aren't engaged by this movie. If you're a Lynch fan who understood Eyes Wide Shut and paid attention to the news of the past few years, you'll probably enjoy it as much as I did. This is expertly crafted cinema, with actual cryptography (the Copiale cipher) and endless tidbits within the movie that deepen the experience. For example, the pool scene is a direct reference to an extremely obscure Marilyn Monroe home movie, as well as a touch of homage to Rebel Without A Cause. The more you know, the more entertaining it is - and if you've ever lived in LA/Hollywood, the creepier it gets. Schizophrenia meets creativity. Likely some drugs involved in the conception of this plot … though it is certainly a break from anything resembling normal, at no point does it convey any message worth deciphering. It is not something I would recommend to people unless what I described here is exactly what they want to experiment with. I can see some of its appeal, but its ambition never comes anywhere close to realization due to a fundamental lack of coherence that undercuts any of its message (both covert and overt). It’s not that the movie has nothing to say or no cleverness to it - I can see that it does - and it does stimulate the imagination and scratch the mystery itch to some extent, but it’s ultimately just poorly organized from the top down. This same director has otherwise done great work - It Follows is a genuine classic and I look forward to its sequel - but this movie is a failed effort on his part, IMHO. But at least it was an effort… See more Read all reviews
