Darren D @DarrenJD Apr 24, 2026 Watching "Uzumaki" felt part Lovecraftian, with an unseen evil hiding behind mysterious, hypnotic spirals & a J-Horror that felt inspired by David Lynch, not just from the variation of personalities & mounting pressure that comes from normal circumstances having the vibe that something is off. It somehow avoids becoming tonally at odds with itself. Higuchinsky's direction is a kinetic shooting style mixing this otherworldly viewpoint & goofiness where things really get weird, & then surprising the audience with brief moments of madness that grow like a parasite. See more Logan D @Greynomad38 Nov 25, 2025 A town descends into madness as its residents become obsessed with spirals that manifest everywhere, including bodies and psyches. For those who prefer a straight-forward narrative, this will likely not land well for you. It landed well with me. I loved the fragmented plotting, atmospherically dreamlike. A washed out green palette enhances the strange visuals provided by outstanding (especially for the budget) practical effects. Apenas mergulhe no terror doentio deste filme. Lovecraft's "Shadow over Innsmouth". The color palette, cinematography and subliminalness work so well with this strangely splendid little movie. The brilliant ending imagery goes directly back to the manga as it could only be done for a finale, and with such an artistically somber flair. Shot in two weeks, it is a quirky flick, more weirdly unsettling rather than scary, although there are a few jumpy and creepy moments. The film is a classic example of j-horror done beautifully. See more Tony L @RT20471521 Oct 5, 2024 The first hour is definetly a pretty faithful adaptation to Junji Ito's manga in terms of eerieness and horror but the last 30 minutes was way too rushed and the ending went too far of from the book, but I do like the mysteriousness behind it. It wouldve definetly been better if it was a longer movie but its still an enjoyable experience non the less.
