From the director of Double Take, Middle Men, and The Poison Rose comes this stylish, glossy action-thriller starring Morgan Freeman (Se7en) and Ruby Rose ("Orange Is the New Black") that shows what desperation can drive a person to do. A mother, Victoria (Rose), is trying to put her dark past as a Russian drug courier behind her, but retired cop Damon (Freeman) forces Victoria to do his bidding by holding her daughter hostage. Now, Victoria must use guns, guts, and a motorcycle to take out a series of violent gangsters -- or she may never see her child again.

The in-camera gimmick, with Freeman literally phoning it in on Rose's headset, lends a strangely passive, vicarious overlay to much of the action - which is not particularly well-marshalled. Go to Full Review Roxana Hadadi Pajiba May 2, 2021
The film's most unintentionally self-aware moment is Damon saying, "I sleep just fine." You'll do that too if forced to sit through Vanquish. Go to Full Review Peter Travers ABC News Apr 23, 2021
it's a form of actor abuse to see the legendary Morgan Freeman trapped in this relentlessly violent and vapid mess that does offer one lesson to students of cinema in how to do everything calamitously wrong. Go to Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Aug 17, 2022

The bland band of supporting players and the even more forgettable story (complete with a preposterous ending) are liabilities too big to overcome. Go to Full Review Victoria Luxford DMovies Feb 17, 2022

Poorly thought out in every aspect, Vanquish lures you in with recognisable names, only to be disappointed by a story thats terribly conceived and executed in a similar fashion. Go to Full Review Aine O'Connor Sunday Independent (Ireland) Aug 20, 2021

Rose has no character to work with, the direction is overstyled and the score is comically expository with super Bad Guy music for bad guys and so on. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

See more Christopher K Apr 18, 2021 I don’t even know where to start...first time I’ve ever walked out of a movie in my life. Morgan Freeman should hang his head in shame for being a part of that train wreck. Wow bad. See more Alan S @RT62877367 Mar 17, 2025 Why, Morgan, why? You have enough money....unless you are donating 100% of your earnings to feed hungry people somewhere. Never mind the plot that has been done (in various ways) a million times before. That general plot can, I guess, still be made into a good movie. But everything about the production is so cheap -- okay, a nice house, and very flashy scenes that shoot past your eyes -- but the sets look like they were filmed in a warehouse. The dialogue makes 1950's Dragnet sound flowery, all of it looks annoying. If someone likes it, it is not my place to tell them not to. Different people like different things. But as to how it resonated with me? Awful. See more Read all reviews
