Michael D @MichaelX Aug 4 This 2014 Oscar-nominated documentary had been lurking in our Netflix queue for years before we finally made time for it, and what a treat it is. Set in eastern Congo’s Virunga National Park, home to the last remaining mountain gorillas on the planet, it follows a small band of park rangers doing genuinely heroic work in the midst of civil war, armed militias, and the predatory ambitions of a British oil company. The depth of compassion these men have for the gorillas, particularly gorilla caretaker André Bauma, whose bond with his orphaned charges is breathtaking, is almost impossible to fathom. It's all too easy to tune out the decades-long low thrum of war in eastern Africa, but docs like this demand our attention. In a world that seems relentlessly determined to exterminate everything beautiful, these rangers are a reminder that true heroes do exist, doing impossible work in forgotten corners of the earth. Las consecuencias del capitalismo, el abuso de poderes y corrupción que estan deteriorando una de las zonas mas emblemáticas del mundo, y de suma importancia para la región. Revela la vulnerabilidad que existe en la zona, y los presentes conflictos que ponen en riesgo a sus habitantes. It demonstrates people devoting their lives to save the environment and the living organisms that live in it. This documentary contains situations that the audience could feel sympathy for the living organisms and how their species are slowly becoming extinct due to human interaction.
