Joe K @RT20232083 4 days ago I went in not thinking much of it. A movie about the military starring Alan Ritchson. I thought, "Awesome, I like military movies, and I like Ritchson". The movie starts with brothers wanting to become Rangers, which is quickly followed by an attack on the convoy by al-Qaeda. Cut to black, and now Ritchson (81 now) is in Ranger bootcamp. He's pushing himself to his limits, trying to reach the finish. Then all of a sudden, there are aliens. Great, another Battleship movie. Overall, it was entertaining enough to keep my attention, but this whole time after the Aliens enter the scene, I have this cringe feeling in the back of my mind. I mean, come on, everything is Aliens, Monsters, or Zombies anymore. See more Peter M @Peter215 5 days ago I actually like the plot and progression of the story. But Alan Ritchson as the lead is a hard watch. If they chose a competent actor as the lead, it would have been a fun movie! Ending was ok but felt a little rushed and left hanging…sequel opening I suppose. It follows an elite Army Ranger training exercise that transforms into a fight for survival when an alien killing machine attacks the squad. While it features a fun mid-movie genre shift, the storyline remains classic popcorn-flick territory. Emotion (2): Anchored by Ritchson's character grieving his fallen brother, the film embeds themes of camaraderie, duty, and peseverance. However, these character motivations serve primarily as a grounded emotional backdrop to drive the combat scenario forward. Action (5): Action is the primary driving force of the film. Built as an old-school survival action movie, it leans heavily into physical stunts, tactical firefights, brutal combat enconters, and large set pieces against an otherworldly threat.
