Critics Consensus

Witch Hunt's smart social commentary is undercut by its lack of original storytelling ideas, but this supernatural horror outing has just enough bite to recommend for teens.

All in all, this is a horror that's neither clever nor scary.

There's an allegory here for patriarchal fear of female power, but that potential gets lost amid inconsistency and appropriation.

More a supernatural drama than horror, or even a thriller, "Witch Hunt" is in the end primarily an effective cautionary fable about intolerance, sweetened with genre elements.

WITCH HUNT is a parable of the crimes of the patriarchy in our society. It is about the injustice of xenophobia and misanthropy built into that structure.

An average film undermined by its inability to see and answer the questions it raises.

Although released in 2021, "Witch Hunt" is especially timely due to the parallels with the nonsensical ICE deportations and killings. Well-directed and well-acted, gets an extra half-star for Elizabeth Mitchell, who oddly wears rompers throughout, and Abigail Cowen. Lead Gideon Adlon is quite good.

This feels like a college made film, however the drama and personal connections and acting were amazing. The one thing it lacked was music. It is so quiet. But this adds to the dramatic effect. This is not horror and was never intended to be. This is a story meant to make people think.

The reason why I like this movie is because of the witches and the love that they have for each other that’s why I think there should be a second movie

Modern-day America. Witchcraft is illegal and punished with death penalty. A family runs a safehouse for prosecuted witches, helping them to escape across the border. The routine of this peculiar family changes when they give asylum to two young witches. "Witch Hunt" is a metaphor for the intolerance observed in today's America, in particular the radical nationalism that refuses to accept a diverse and multicultural society. A great idea but a mediocre execution!

That was an hour and a half of my life wholly wasted that I will never get back. I kept waiting for something or some plot to form, but nope, it never happens in this terrible film. I mean the premise is intriguing, but the writing is terrible.
