A wickedly delightful genre mashup led by Melissa Barrera, Your Monster is pleasantly packed with songs, guts, and heart.

An appropriately monstrous hit with audiences at London’s Sundance and Dublin’s Horrorthon festivals, this is not quite a fairy tale, but it comes close enough to cast a spell.

Caroline Lindy’s feature debut is a droll, if uneven blend of comedy, romance, fantasy and horror that relies heavily on the off-the-charts chemistry between Barrera and Dewey, who manages to convince as a charismatic romantic lead.

The film is smart about the ways anger intersects with femininity, but I do wish we’d gotten some hints about how to use anger constructively and not be consumed by it.

Women aren’t just taught to suppress their anger, we’re also taught to fear our wants. And this movie plays with that beautifully. Her connection with the monster isn’t just about rage, it’s about passion.

Your Monster works really well as a magical realism film with successful elements of romance and comedy. It is a feel-good film that manages to be very funny but also particularly emotional, with a unique and memorable tone.

A delightfully charming film. Melissa Barrera and Tommy Dewey are wonderful in their roles, and showcase excellent chemistry. I am unsure how I feel about the ending. It could be brilliant or disappointing. I will decide after my second viewing.

This was a cute love yourself beauty and the beast movie. The ending was a little confusing but after it sinks in you realize the beast is the part of yourself that gets angry at not being loved the right way.

This was better than Beauty & the Beast😁. I'm glad I found it. Might have enjoyed it more as a series, but good dark fun
