Jared C @JaredMCruz Dec 24 Pete’s Christmas is a masterpiece of filmmaking detailing the realistic struggles of a lower-middle-class family experiencing trauma after the loss of their grandmother causes the repressed emotions of the older men in the family to be unleashed in an incisive satire of toxic masculinity. Pete, a young abused child, is put in the role of the family’s savior, undergoing the metaphorical crucifixion of reliving the same day ad infinitum, until he has personally resolved the sins of his family despite their totally depraved nature (except for Pete’s mother, who’s physical and emotional labor is endlessly exploited within the patriarchal household, and the young child who wets the bed, who at such a young age has already learned to set aside his feelings in a vain attempt to support his mother against the forces of evil previously described). Ultimately, a fun holiday romp for the whole family. Very humorous as well, I quite enjoy "the Bronskis", an entertaining duo to say the least. Zachery Gordon and Bailee Madison have fine chemistry. That makes you ship them. My problem with time loop movies though is if only Pete was stuck in a time loop. Why do characters stuck in one. Always wake up the next day eventually ? Wouldn’t it be at least a couple of months or maybe years later for everyone not stuck in one ? I was pleasantly surprised how charmed I was by this movie, and by the end I had bit of a lump in my throat, which is a good sign. It's derivative of GROUNDHOG DAY, almost to a fault, but if you're going to copy a movie, you might as well make it one of the great comedies of the 1990s!
