Nina Apr 27 So funny despite the kills. The acting is impeccable and and we feel for Frankie. The cinematography is so cool too. This film would have been better if the director focused more on the actual kills, instead the film relies on shock with littering body parts around in a bathroom while our star Frankie is on the phone late for her singing audition. The rest of the film didn't make me feel like the $10 was worth the watch. Personally the cast could have been better. I personally believe Emanuel De Santi makes better films at Necrostorm. Taeter Burger deserves higher ratings than it was given. Overall Frankie Maniac woman is a 3/5 at best, but I recommend Terrifier instead. See more Ty T @HorrorIsHome Jul 29 This film has been misidentified by the internet as a Texas Chainsaw Massacre homage. I believed it when I first read about it while seeing the poster and teaser. The mask kinda looks like classic Leatherface, but that’s where the similarities stop. There’s no need to bash this film more than needed. It’s a low budget slasher with bad acting and poor editing. The music choices are also questionable and repetitive. Otherwise the biggest problem is the storytelling. The first act is slow and a test of patience for said flaws. The black and white filter doesn’t do the pace any favors. Then I actually enjoyed the second act. The pace picked up and felt more like a comedic slasher. Then the third act just lost me again. The addition of these characters took me out of it. On paper, the premise sounds solid. In execution, not much can redeem the cringy characters, overacting, and questionable storytelling. Instead of becoming a cathartic descent into madness, Frankie, Maniac Woman devolves into an exhausting cycle of the same ideas presented over and over again, in a bizarre, repetitive manner and with nothing new to say. And no, bizarre does not mean avant-garde in this case. It’s bizarre for the sake of being bizarre. It’s self-indulgent, devoid of any deeper meaning or substance, and mistakes being strange for being profound. I have been waiting to see a slasher like her. She is so human; clumsy, messy, accident prone but she just wants to be loved. Bloody, absurdly hilarious and an ode to the classic slashers. The DIY necessity created a punk AF energy that is infectious. With only a crew of two, Dina and Pierre created one of the most clever and honest characters alike Leatherface in TCM 2. The guerrilla marketing paired with independent distribution truly shows the grit and grind Frankie has been on. You absolutely need to see this one! Beg your local projectionists to bring it to their theaters, the best way to watch it is on the big screen with a crowd. To call it an instant cult classic is not hyperbolic. In some ways it is a throw back to down and dirty independent film making. At the same it delivers a timely and timeless message. As you laugh at the absurdities and cringe at the violence and gore, you can’t help feeling for Frankie as you follow her. The performances, the writing, the direction are all top notch.
