This is a fascinating picture. Going there expecting a rather tiresome piece of "uplift" propaganda, the reviewer came away inspired, and the audience was with him in that mood. Go to Full Review NYT Staff New York Times Nov 10, 2020
All through the photoplay there is symbolism, and some of it is impressive and peculiar to the power of motion pictures. And, let it be repeated, the story, as a story, grips and holds the interest as few photo stories do. Go to Full Review New York Post Staff New York Post Nov 9, 2020
The film is undoubtedly impressive and gripping, and holds the interest at all times. Go to Full Review Julian Johnson Photoplay Nov 10, 2020
Miss Keller herself is a marvel of intuition and mechanical perfection, but I think the story, the human interest, is almost spoiled by the enormous amount of propaganda so unnecessarily inserted into the last reels. Go to Full Review Harriette Underhill New York Tribune Nov 10, 2020
Of course, every one knows in a general way that, though lacking sight, the power to hear, or speak, Helen Keller became one of the best educated women in the world, but one cannot realize enormousness of that task until one has seen the journey. Deborah B @RT43836910 Dec 25, 2024 I have always been a fan of “The Miracle Worker “, but the silent version included Helen herself, which gave me a greater understanding and appreciation of this amazing woman and her faithful teacher and companion, Anne Sullivan. I am also a big fan of silent movies, so that was a bonus. I have since been obsessed with the history of Helen Keller and have not only learned much about her but also about the history of the disabled. I highly recommend this version of her life.
