In this portrait of parental sacrifice and the love of a father for his son, former wrestler Kakhi (played by real-life Olympic champion Levan Tediashvili) embarks on a journey from his home in the Republic of Georgia to visit his son Soso (Giorgi Tabidze) in the Russian-speaking neighborhood of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. There he finds him living in a shabby boarding house populated by a colorful group of fellow Georgian immigrants. Soso is not studying medicine, as Kakhi believed, but is working for a moving company and has accrued a $14,000 gambling debt to a local Russian mob boss. Kakhi sets his mind to helping his hapless son out of his debt, leading to situations as often comic as they are dire.

dave d @RT34924333 07/26/2022 It is a really cool performance for Levan Tediashvili who plays a version of himself, but it is too slow and meandering to maintain a wandering mind. Luckily I played it on a quicker speed and the Georgian film with a heavy dose of Brooklyn rang a multi-pronged bell. In reality, it's fine. Perhaps a bit too restrained, the family dynamics are amusing and events have consequences. There is a slice of life feel, even if it may be a little bit outlandish for the middle of America folks. Solid, but never spectacular. Final Score: 6.2/10 See more 07/12/2022 I just couldn't get into this film, so I stopped watching part way through. I wanted to see more of the inner workings of the Brighton Beach neighborhood and of the Russian-speaking community that inhabits it. Plus I was curious to see more of life in Georgia. But it doesn't seem like they give you much of that. It may be that I just didn't give it enough of a chance. I may try it again later. See more Read all reviews
