Feb 19, 2016 The Action & Scenary Are On Par With Other Epic Fantasy-Adventure Blockbusters; It Is Just The Dialogue-Politics & Story Is Unfortunately At Times Hard To Follow. They All Talk So Quickly & The Twists Or Double-Crosses Come All Too Thick & Fast It Is Also Ultra Violent, So If That's Not Your Thing, Is Avoid. See more Oct 15, 2015 Brotherhood of Blades is a labor to finish. It tells the story of a trio of badass Imperial Assassins, and one of them becomes corrupt and lets an Imperial enemy go in exchange for gold. It solves all their subplot problems, such as yearning for a promotion, being indebted to a blackmailer, and freeing a prostitute from eternal servitude. But the first two action sequences are full of shlocky CGI blood, so the movie's immaculate set and costume design are lessened. The movie uses less of these bad visual effects by the film's end, but by the end the movie falls into hardcore melodrama and ridiculousness. There are no real stakes, as you feel none of these characters will make it out alive, regardless of their skill level. There's one decent action scene at the end that uses good fake blood (Lian vs 4 shield users), but every other scene is bland. If you take it for just an action movie its barely satisfying, but it won't be remembered down the line at all. (PS. Chen Chang looks like an Asian Joel Kinnaman) See more Sep 13, 2015 Good gripping period piece story that tells the tale of how the road to hell is paved with the best of intentions especially when the individual thinks their actions won't really hurt anyone. See more Aug 13, 2015 Westerners have a hard time dealing with the differences in the use and style of special effects in Asia, and they also tend to be less receptive towards unhappy and ambiguous endings, but Brotherhood of Blades was well directed, choreographed, paced, and acted, and that usually equals a solid film regardless of culture in my book. See more born k @RT38632965 Jul 3, 2015 Nie adventure / drama story in the Imperial China of 17th century - a nice written an concise plot, actings, photography and fight scenes, without the non-sense, humor or innuman action scenes of many other chinese action movies. If you want a more serious and realist movie, this is the one. 7 /10 See more May 21, 2015 It is good: action and plot. It is a martial art movie. Who the hell care about excessive special effect blood spill? Chris Sawin from the Examiner probably does not know about it. See more Read all reviews
