Ava (Sophie McIntosh), the daughter of the Governor of California, is hoping for a peaceful getaway with friends in the resort town of Cabo, Mexico -- with her faithful minder Brandon (Colm Meaney) in tow. But when the plane crashes in the Pacific Ocean and comes to rest on the edge of an underwater ravine, Ava and a handful of survivors are trapped in the airlocked cabin. Against the odds, Ava must fend for herself, contend with bloodthirsty sharks, and find the courage to step up and lead the crash survivors to safety.

Critics Consensus

Taking a promising premise and driving it straight into the sea, No Way Up doesn't have enough fun with its nerve-shredding concept.

The one selling point of No Way Up is that it makes you scared of being scared, which may be enough for a lazy evening on the couch with a friend, a drink and a meal, though it probably wouldn’t work on sushi night.

Is it good? I’m inclined to write "no", but if viewers want an underwater thriller about forgettable passengers on an aeroplane getting picked off one by one by a swarm of computer-generated sharks, well then I’m not sure there is a superior option.

The special effects are adequate but not dazzling; the characters are flat, the subplots uninteresting, and what's initially presented isn't utilized further; and some decisions diminish the story's credibility. [Full Review in Spanish]

With cheesy dialogue and easily predictable moments, this may be far from high art but it embraces its clichés like old friends and delivers some claustrophobic tension and fun action.

Most performances are good, the visual effects are surprisingly decent, and the entire experience is digested in just over an hour and a half, which is increasingly rare these days. Full review in Spanish.

No Way Up not only contends with killer sharks, but also irreconcilable visions. A self-serious tone sucks all the oxygen out of what was otherwise an effective killer shark flick.

You know those survival stories involving plane crashes? And the ones featuring sharks, running out of air, and so on? Mix it all together—and then some—and that’s exactly what you get here. The cool thing is, it doesn’t disappoint as much as you might expect. It delivers tension and a race against time, packed with suspense, sheer desperation, and—for those who enjoy that sort of thing—some delightfully over-the-top, far-fetched lies. As for the cast, the most recognizable name is certainly Colm Meaney (known for *Con Air*, for instance). I don’t recall the other actors, nor was I familiar with director Claudio Fäh’s work, though he handled the premise quite competently. If you’re in the mood for a quick, suspenseful survival flick, this one might just hit the spot.

Entertaining and suspenseful. Is it in the same league as Jaws? No, but it is a great entry into the shark movie genre.

Logic went totally out the windows at the end of this film. This would've been an okay B-movie if they ended it right. However the absurd ending ruined an okay movie
