Film R @FilmRx Jun 22, 2026 This is the kind of indie film that feels genuinely original. What begins as a quirky romantic comedy gradually reveals itself to be something richer, blending noir, mystery, and heartfelt drama with real emotional stakes. The film is populated by a colorful cast of characters, and the narrative continually finds fresh ways to subvert expectations. Beneath its playful genre elements is a thoughtful story about vulnerability, authenticity, and the search for someone who truly sees and understands us. Writer-star Lorrisa Julianus has crafted a story that feels both inventive and personal, while skilled director C.J. Julianus keeps the many tonal shifts balanced and engaging, drawing strong work from his ensemble. The real revelation here is Lorrisa’s star turn as Ava. She brings intelligence, charisma, humor, and emotional depth to a challenging role, proving herself an undeniably compelling screen presence. An inventive, heartfelt indie that takes risks and has a voice all its own. See more GSP S @RT05106864 Mar 3, 2026 The title is a mouthful and is every bit as unique as the film itself. You’ve got a sympathetic and entertaining lead in Lorissa Julianus’s Ava. She both overturns and affirms the trope of a "strong, female lead" - the script lets her be a woman, be smart, be reasonably tough, without being condescending or dumbing down her costars. Effective use of voiceover lets you spend time inside her head, get to know her better. Mickey O’Sullivan shines just as bright as Radovan. He’s intelligent and formidable and as would be expected, hiding his own dark secrets. The chemistry between Radovan and Ava is obvious and it immediately endears them to you. O’Sullvan played Radovan a touch understated and it made him all the more compelling. Lorrisa Julianus wrote a tight, fun, script and C.J. Julianus did an excellent job realizing it on-screen. The direction was well done, shot composition was solid, great cinematography and lighting. Everything was highly polished and professional! Director CJ Julianus manages to blend genres in such a clever way as this whimsical tale flirts with comedy, romance, high-stakes drama and ultimately a message about people who’ve been scarred and how each of us is more than the sum of outsiders’ thoughts. Lorissa Julianus’ brilliantly crafted screenplay takes you on a ride with unexpected twists and turns all the way up till the end. Her stellar turn in front of the camera as Ava Moriarty keeps you engaged as you can’t help but feel for her character and the predicaments she faces. The Julianus tandem both on screen and off is what makes this movie truly special. One glance at the credits and you see just how many roles they played bringing this quirky, layered and original story to life! See more Shadow Work Productions L @MatthewSWP Dec 28, 2025 Misadventures of Mistress Maneater is a romantic comedy that understands the genre well enough to work within it while still offering a few welcome surprises. Fans of rom-coms and Hallmark-style love stories will feel at home, but the film sets itself apart through character-driven choices and a narrative that hints at multiple possible paths rather than rushing toward an obvious conclusion. The pacing is measured and occasionally slow, yet it allows relationships and emotional beats time to breathe. Visually, the cinematography fits the tone, using soft lighting and subtle camera movement to support the story without drawing attention to itself. While some scenes feel forced and the plot follows familiar rom-com territory, the execution remains sincere and engaging. One brief moment leans into cinematic license rather than realism, but it serves the emotional arc and does not detract from the experience. As someone who usually passes on romantic comedies, this film surprised me. See more Bobby L @BobbyInLA Jun 20, 2025 I enjoyed this fun story. Played by two charming leads in Lorrisa Julianus and Mickey O’Sullivan., the Misadventures of Mistress Maneater is a refreshing romantic drama with a lot of heart. Mistress Maneater’s inperfections make her character feel grounded and a lot of fun. Star and screenwriter Lorrisa Julianus is brilliant in every scene. If you are looking for a fun indie noir film on Prime, look no further and give this little gem a shot. See more Pat H @RT20636062 Apr 24, 2025 Misadventures of Mistress Maneater isn't necessarily the movie that you'd expect from the cold open, which suggests a tone and subject matter not a million miles removed from Netflix’ late lamented show ‘Bonding’. Where this actually goes is much more unpredictable; a genre mash-up that takes in comedy, romance and action in a fun froth, anchored by an endlessly watchable central performance from Lorissa Julianus (who also takes writing duties). The sense of cheerful abandon on display really helps to overcome some structural hiccups and the movie manages to provide a fun and unpredictable choice for an evening's entertainment.
