Gabriel S @Sanarel 2d One of those movies that is a bit hard to swallow. The Promise promises strong horror themes, but delivers a subpar experience mainly because the haunting is too weak to be scary, and the premise is too stretched to be acceptable. The rationale for the haunting to start 20 years after the events of 1997 is acceptable, but the payoff misses the point. What is supposed to be a touching horror story turns out a far-fetched—even though the acting is strong. The Promise in itself is not terrible, but you would expect something more sinister out of a best-friends promise of suicide. This is horror movie that u can show to someone who doesn't like horror movie because of the ghost. This movie bring the horror without even once visualize it directly. This movie focus only on two women, that make the film show truly the power and struggler of female characters.
