Teenage Charley Brewster is a horror-film junkie, so it's no surprise that when a reclusive new neighbor moves next-door, Brewster becomes convinced he's a vampire. It's also no surprise when nobody believes him. After strange events begin to occur, Charlie has no choice but to turn to the only person who could possibly help: washed-up television vampire killer Peter Vincent.

Critics Consensus

Fright Night deftly combines thrills and humor in this ghostly tale about a man living next to a vampire.

Tom Holland’s Fright Night uses the trappings of old-fashioned monster movies to explore sexual terrain that’s decidedly from the 1980s.

As silly as it may be, it is never silly enough to expect you to take it seriously.

It's fun, mainly because it doesn't take itself too seriously.

It balances the shock moments and body horror with humour and visual gags wonderfully, and manages to hit an entertaining extended climax.

The delight of the concept stands the test of time, even if the production's limitations are a bit more evident all these years later.

I wholeheartedly believe “Fright Night” to be an underrated classic...It’s driven by a fabulous collection of characters, an unabashedly fun story, some deliciously gory effects, and a steady seasoning of good humor.

I've watched this movie three times hoping each time that it will get better. I really wanted to like it. The practical effects are great, but the acting and the characters are downright annoying, with the exception of Roddy McDowell.

Finally got around to watching this after years of only associating it with its outstanding art design for the poster. Perhaps criticized for being too cheesy but surprisingly good effects and character development, and I loved seeing Bearse onscreen coming from an old Married w/Children fan.

Used one of its scenes in my aesthetic edit,so I decided to watch it. It was sooo good and a very good 80s movie. Awsome plot and the camera placement is honestly everything, one of the reason I used on of their scenes in my edit.
