Melissa M @Lisey 4d This movie got a lot of mixed reviews. You can tell the comic chemistry between Dan aykroyd & John Belushi. They were the best of friends starting back in there's SNL days. The film was based on a 1980's novel Neighbors by Tom Berger. The film apparently it's completely different from the novel. And has a somewhat more of a happy ending. The screenplay for the film is officially credited by Larry Gelbert. His version was overly rewritten in spite of Larry's disapproval. This movie is about an uptight conservative named Earl who lives a mundane life. New neighbors move in next door The Zecks they are outrageous & flamboyant. At 1st Earl is not as charmed & fascinated by them as his family is. After a lot of hijinks & shenanigans. When Earl is offered a chance at a more exciting life by the Zecks he readily accepts. This film was released 2 & half months before John Belushi's death. Sadly this is Belushi's last movie. If you wacky & dark comedies you'll love this film. It's also bittersweet because of Belushi's death soon after and this being a great movie about friendship. Wonderfully both lead actors play against type and Cathy Moriarty is so sexy and hilarious.
