What to Know

Critics Consensus

Though it offers mild entertainment through campy one-liners and the overacting of the late Raul Julia, Street Fighter's nonstop action sequences are not enough to make up for a predictable, uneven storyline.

Street Fighter the movie is big, dumb, loud and violent, very much like a videogame brought to life. Or would be, were it not completely lifeless. Go to Full Review

Action-flick scribe Steven de Souza's feature directing debut, "Street Fighter," is a big-budget muddle of thrown-together generic plot elements and threadbare characters drawn from video game company Capcom's every-kid's-played-it mega-hit. Go to Full Review

De Souza tries hard, even too hard... But for all the characters butting heads, all the street fights and all the explosions (there are plenty of those), "Street Fighter" may very well put you to sleep. Go to Full Review

After "Super Mario Bros." and "Double Dragon," we should understand the concept. So if you like bright flashes, loud noises and comic-book dialogue, by all means check out "Street Fighter." Go to Full Review

This is Jean-Claude's first PG-13 film, which makes it accessible for all ages. Too bad there isn't much entertainment accessible here, too. Go to Full Review

It is by no means a masterwork, even by popcorn movie standards. But it is exciting enough to entertain even people who have never played anything more action-packed than Pac Man. Go to Full Review

Robert P @Superbad 3 days ago Street Fighter is a *1* star Movie! See more Timothy B @RT54507179 Sep 18, 2026 Why? Dear god why. It’s like it wanted to be dumber and worse than any action movie that came before it. See more Gaston O @RT27529755 Sep 13, 2026 9 palabras NOSTALGIA! 🥲 See more Johnathon W @Hoppynsc Sep 9, 2026 Messy but fun film that works in a so bad its good way. The cast is all over the place, with Jean Claude Van Damme clearly fueled by cocaine from behind the scenes reports. However, the late, great Raul Julia is brilliant as M. Bison, giving the kind of over the top performance only a professional actor like he could deliver. Behind the camera, writer/director Steven E. de Souza crafts a mess of a movie, with the biggest problem ditching the street fighter story for a military action one. As a result, characters from the game are shoehorned in strange ways, from Chun Li being a reporter to DJ a computer hacker. That being said, the action is fun if a bit crazy, with some solid set designs and pieces. Overall, not a good movie but a good time in a so bad its good way. See more Cristian B @icebad Jul 17, 2026 JCVD at its finest. A groundbreaking action film, with beautiful fights, music that fits the genre perfectly, and sleazy acting that gets the job done.
