British-born ladies' man Alfie (Jude Law) exploits his job as a New York City limousine driver to meet and sleep with attractive women -- which infuriates his pseudo-girlfriend Julie (Marisa Tomei), a single mom. His libertine lifestyle is interrupted, however, when his girl-crazy ways end up hurting his best friend, Marlon (Omar Epps). Desperate, Alfie attempts a go at monogamy with the ravishing Nikki (Sienna Miller), but even her good looks aren't enough to keep him out of trouble for long.

Critics Consensus

This unnecessary remake wants Alfie to have his cake and eat it, too, but a lack of sexual fizz and a sour performance by Jude Law conspire to deliver audiences a romantic comedy that isn't romantic or funny.

The weakness is the script (by Elaine Pope, who won an Emmy for Seinfeld and should've done better). It isn't funny, it isn't clever and it certainly isn't profound.

Paradoxically, the single aspect of the '66 film that's wholeheartedly retained in the remake is its least realistic attribute...

Unpredictably fun, endlessly entertaining, intelligent and full of heart, [Alfie] is the surprise of the season; and one where you won't find yourself asking "What's it all about" when the curtain falls.

I really liked the camera used in the movie. Because the angles and small details are captured very well.

I have mixed opinions about this movie. The beginning of the movie grabs the interest, with all the slick glamour and charm of Jude Law's character. By the middle of the film, one can feel a bit exhausted with all frenetic bed-hopping and smooth talk from Alfie. So, by the end, Alfie is feeling empty and lonely. This is entirely a believable and inevitable result, rather than falling back on one of his conquests to have a happy ending. That scene would not have been realistic. Alfie found out the hard way that there are consequences for his actions, and a lot of regrets. After saying that....Jude Law played the part of a charming cad so well.
