Critics Consensus

In some respects, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip is a marginal improvement over prior installments, although this in no way qualifies as a recommendation.

Bashing your head against the wall would be more fun than The Road Chip.

The absence of long-standing series stalwart David Cross is a shame (Tony Hale can't quite fill the gap) but Jason Lee is back, making it business as usual.

Alvin And The Chipmunks: Road Chip has enough crazy scenes and music sequences to keep younger kids happy while the older generations will warm to the more heartfelt moments throughout the film. Yes this film isn’t the car crash many expected it would be.

The chipmunks don't make very good movies, but hey, at least they're cute.

Half of this movie is, "Oh! This is what Chipmunks could have been!" and the other have is just "Oh. This is what Chipmunks have always been."

This movie is one of the best films I have ever seen. The comedy just keeps you locked in throughout the entire plot. I love Theodore and his nuanced relationship with food. The film culturally touches on many different US locations and is honestly one of my favorites of all time! Please watch it, you won't regret it, I think it is more enjoyable as an adult rather than a child.

Its better adaptation of the Oddysey (by The security guard's nightmare scene) than Christopher Nolan's The Oddysey.
