Ben W @Username618 1 day ago Week 41, 2026. Second film of the film festival, of my own ... on my own! ow. No. It'll be alright. So. This was second view. Only 1000 characters. So , this was in a double bill with Romancing the Stone, as opening film. Like, I am completely bested. Vein of melancholy- broken romance, broken world. Echoed, re-echoed in sad music. Does it use beautiful people to grab your attention? Yes. But I also think K.K. a decent actress. Who can do jokes, which is a plus. Erm, yeah, so. Second time round- i) Mark Gruffalo's a bit, Big Leb. ii) Mos Def, he can be funny in Be Kind Rewind, so. iii) I could see a person complain of its treatment of women. Troublegum (!) hugs Gretta a bit too much/ key story-line, is about getting a daughter to cover herself up. And I think, ... also with Ghosts UK Series 2 Episode 2. Getting people to dance on camera! Tough call. Thank you. Bye! Enjoy. See more Matthew D @OceanSage Sep 3, 2026 I adored Begin Again for its refreshing natural performances and gentle singing. Irish director John Carney’s American romantic comedy-drama musical Begin Again (2013) is really lovely. It’s like a warm blanket on a cold night. Carney’s direction really just lets his ensemble perform so authentically. Keira Knightley’s indie folk and indie pop songs are delightful. I like that Keira Knightley gently sings her gorgeously written songs by Gregg Alexander. She brings an earnestness and intimately performs these lovely songs. Begin Again is worth seeking out. Keira Knightley is lovely, sincere, moving, and subtle as young singer-songwriter Gretta James. I have never loved Keira Knightley more than in her complex and devastating performance in Begin Again. Mark Ruffalo is a blast as a down on his luck music producer named Dan Mulligan. He’s phenomenal as this hilarious alcoholic. Jokes apart, this is an amazing feel-good movie with great actors and fantastic music. It's a love letter to music, love, commitment and...New York City. Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo have amazing chemistry and the supporting cast is a blast too, especially James Corden and Hailee Steinfeld. The musical work is incredible, like one catchy tune after another (I'm still listening to "Tell Me If You Wanna Go Home", while writing this review) and the overall atmosphere is 100% upbeat but never cheesy. Some might think that the end of the film is a bit half-baked but I like to disagree...in my opinion more movies should end like this, leaving the final conclusion of the story to the audience instead of explaining everything. Oh, and don't stop the movie once the end credits begin to roll. See more Johnwil B @Johnwil123 Apr 4, 2026 ending is realistic wherein keira realizes they grow apart on a separate scenarios. and contentment and letting go is the factor of it. See more Tony S @RT22145614 Mar 15, 2026 I enjoyed this movie about a Brit who comes to New York City because her boyfriend is getting a record deal. She's a very talented songwriter and he's a budding rock/pop star. Her entry to stardom takes a different path that includes a washed up music producer, a big-time rap artist, and some friends. It's good stuff. See more Jamie S @Jamiexx Mar 14, 2026 I’ve watched this movie 100 times over the years and I appreciate it a little more each time. What an absolute gem. The music is so good and is what makes this movie even better, and the actors were phenomenal. If you haven’t seen it, watch it, you won’t be sorry! See more Read all reviews
